2026 League FAQ
Quick answers tied to the current two-division review, rules, playoff format, and signup.
Why expand now?
The league has grown into a stronger member amenity, and the current footprint alone is getting tight.
Many subs and previous players have patiently waited for a spot in the league. They have put in their time as subs and deserve a chance to be part of the league if there is room to accommodate them.
The two-division format creates room for 4 more teams while reserving the tee box at 3:00 PM to help spread out play and reduce first-tee backup.
Why are all the changes necessary?
The current rules and format no longer fit the way the league is being played today.
The field size, competition level, and money involved has grown, so the league needs a clearer and more unified structure to keep play fair.
These changes create a more consistent rules framework, a cleaner path to qualify and win, and a setup that is closer to how many other leagues already operate while also aligning more closely with USGA rules.
Why use two divisions instead of one larger field?
The current direction keeps one shared league feel while creating enough structure to handle a larger field.
The regular season stays inside each division, then both divisions reconnect in playoffs and interleague weeks.
Why use one side of the course rather than both sides?
Both sides are not currently available, and keeping the whole league on one side keeps skins games unified.
Adding 4 teams but reserving the tee box an extra hour should also help speed up play.
How are teams placed into divisions?
Teams with true late-time needs are accommodated first.
After that, the remaining field can be drawn more randomly so the divisions stay fair and fun.
What are the early and late tee-time windows?
Early tee times run from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Late tee times start at 4:00 PM or later.
That earlier start is also meant to reduce the need for teams to shotgun or jump to other holes when the tee backs up.
With support from South Hills, early teams may still be able to turn to the other 9 if they want to play a full 18.
When does the league start?
Practice week is Monday, April 13, 2026.
The regular season is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Open the scheduleHow does the playoff format work?
The main championship field is built from the top 8 teams in each division, creating a 16-team bracket.
Teams 9 through 12 from each division would play in a separate toilet bowl bracket.
Open the bracketWhy use playoffs?
There are not enough weeks to play every team across a larger field and still have a meaningful finish.
The playoffs reconnect the divisions, keep more teams involved late, and give the season a clearer championship path.
Why do higher seeds get point advantages?
Point advantages reward teams that finish higher in the regular season.
They also make seeding matter before the bracket starts instead of treating every matchup exactly the same.
Will I still compete against about as many teams as in past years?
Most likely yes. In past years, teams were not scheduled against every team anyway, and rainouts could reduce variety even more.
Under this format, the regular season keeps each division on the same qualification path, then the playoffs, toilet bowl, best-ball weeks, and interleague weeks create more matchups outside your own division.
If the full 18-week schedule happens, most teams should still see a different opponent each week.
What happens if weather forces a cancellation?
Current format gives the league room to cancel play when needed and still complete the full regular season plus playoffs.
If weather wipes out a week, that lost time will come out of the interleague cup weeks first.
That keeps division qualification tied to a full regular season instead of letting weather shorten it unevenly.
Why change the rules?
One of the strongest themes in the feedback was that the rules need to be more consistent so players know what to expect each week.
Preferred lies in the fairway only help keep players from blatantly improving a lie to gain an advantage.
Using one clear drop approach for hazards, out of bounds, and lost balls also removes ambiguity and helps avoid hard feelings.
The one difference is that hazards can still be played from, while out of bounds requires full relief.
How will double par max work?
Double par applies to the final score only, which affects both the posted handicap score and the final low-net score point.
Players should still finish the hole unless the opponent has clearly already won it.
A player can always concede the hole and take the max double par.
How do Large Skins work now?
Large Skins are now NET & GROSS SKINS.
They increase to $12 a week, or $180 for 15 weeks, and must be subscribed to before the season begins.
Paying up front also means any of your subs would already be registered for skins, which may make it easier to find one.
How do League Games work now?
League Games are now NET SKINS and closest to the pin.
Players can plan to pay weekly or pay $75 up front for 15 weeks.
Paying up front also means any of your subs would already be registered for league games, which may encourage more subs to play.
How does the new greens and cart fee option work?
Players can choose to pay greens and cart fees up front as a new option.
Paying up front secures 3 nine-hole rain checks. South Hills members would be paying cart fees only.
It may also make paying for subs simpler because those weekly course charges are handled ahead of time.
How does the new $20 year-end prize pool work?
Each player would contribute $20 toward the year-end prize pool.
If the league reaches 24 teams, that would mean 48 players and a $960 pool.
A clean 4-place payout would be $400, $280, $180, and $100.
